Sometimes in life you have an opportunity to do something that is incredibly challenging but extraordinarily rewarding. The difficulty will pail in comparison to the meaning you can bring to a family. I had that chance.

It was a typical day just after Christmas when I got a call. This was no ordinary call, this was a family in need. The man’s voice was steady as he asked me about my availably for that day. I suggested the following day might be easier but he insisted that it was essential it be that day and the sooner the better. I agreed and packed up my gear and headed out to the families home.
Pet portraits are generally my favorite type of photography ever. Not sure why, maybe it is the mix of human with critter magic, because critters really are magical. That is not to imply this was not a wonderful session. It truly was the most moving experience.

When I arrived this lovely couple explained they had learned Timber only had a few hours left. Timber the couples fur baby had a terminal illness and that had run it’s course. Being an animal lover, I knew I had to help.
I tucked my emotions away so I could create some family portraits this family could look back on fondly. We talked about Timber’s first day, favorite cookies, favorite dog parks, and favorite kinds of brushing. In case you could not tell Timber loved cuddles. We spent a good couple of hours together breaking let the Timber rest and allow his humans some time to collect themselves when needed. I would have been perfectly fine if the session did not end that day, but as with most everything there has to be an ending.
The passing of a family friend is never easy, but I am so honored that I received the call and was able to help that day.
